What is it? |

Orthoptics is the science which deals with the investigation and management of
disorders of binocular vision (vision forming a single image on retina with two eyes) and
defects of eye movement. |

What is it done for? |
|
It is a specialized field in ophthalmology dealing with very specific eye problems
such as Convergence Insufficiency , Amblyopia (reduced vision in one or both eyes) ,
crossed eyes ,misalignment of the eyes (Strabismus) , and Diplopia (double vision). |

How is it done? |
|
Orthoptic examination is a part of routine eye examination which is done to find
out any squint or deviation of the eyes with the help of cover tests , its measurement with
prismbar cover test . Synaptophore is the instrument used for finding out any abnormal
retinal correspondence including many other deviation of eyes. |

What are the benefits? |

Orthoptic examination helps to detect convergence insufficiency, Amblyopia which
we called lazy eye in layman terms.It helps to detect any kind of squint and the degree of
Squint.It also detects Diplopia . |

What are the limitations? |
|
Measurement taken by the practioner should be accurate.
Eye should be clean and clear during orthoptic examination.

How much time is taken? |
|
Normal time required is 5 to 10 minutes for normal eye. Time taken is between 15 to
20 minutes in abnormal eye (eye with some kind of deviation) |

|
It is a part of routine eye examination so it is included in consultation charges, but
after examination if some eye exercizes are required ,they are chargeable and the cost
